Summer is one of my favourite times to have people over. There’s something about a table outside, plenty of sharing food and candles beginning to glow as the sun goes down that makes an evening feel special.
I’m not someone who keeps hosting particularly minimal. I tend to make too much food, use several serving dishes and keep adding little details until everyone arrives. These are the pieces I reach for every summer because they help me create the atmosphere I love.
Candles, even in Summer
Candles aren’t only for autumn and winter in my house. I light them outdoors as the evening starts to change, using a mixture of dinner candles, tea lights and larger candles at different heights. I do use scented candles too, but I choose something warm and subtle around food rather than anything overpowering.

I particularly like these dinner candles because they burn evenly and add height without taking over the table.
