Why Everyone Needs A Coach!

Athlete’s have specialized coaches – one for nutrition, one for mindset, another one for their talent (and the list goes on) …

So why is it that most of us think we can get ahead in this game called life without having a coach ourselves?

Before I share a quick story with you about why I was “A” grade lunatic who thought I could “do it all on my own” (referring to building an internet business that is) … let me just say that I love the phrase “wise in hindsight”.  Hopefully this reflection over my experiences from the past few years will save you some costly dollars, time and energy – (well that’s my goal for this post anyway )

Now for the story …

It’s been nearly 5 years since I was first introduced to network marketing.

For me the journey began with bumping into a girl I went to school with.  We spent quite a few months trying to arrange to get together for a proper catch up to talk about the 15 years that we hadn’t seen each other and it when it finally happened, she shared with me her latest venture and invited me to meet her business Mentor.

In true traditional network marketing form, this amazing woman was the first person who had ever asked me what I really wanted out of life, AND she wanted to know “did I have a dream?”.   I was taken aback, I’d never really thought about it, I was too busy just living day to day … but boy she seemed super intereseted in “me” so I left that meeting armed with my first “home study” program  (Tim Sales “Brilliant Compensation” DVD and a copy of Robert Kiyosaki’s Rich Dad Poor Dad book) and an introduction DVD about the Company, the products and their vision.

24 hours later … I was IN – hook, line & sinker!  (although I did need to use my persuasion skills on my husband )

To recap, I had re-connected with Paula (my school buddy) and was then introduced to Janet (her upline) and from that moment my life took on a whole new purpose, and so began my personal development journey.

Janet, a brilliant business woman and very successful Property Developer and Entrepreneur became my first ever “Coach & Mentor”.

The first 18 months in the business was amazing.  My eyes were opened to so many new and wonderful things and I became insatiable in my learning and growing.  However, about 3 months before I tripped over and fell down the rabbit hole of the ONLINE world, my coach and mentor, Janet, resigned from the Company.

I was devasted!

She and her partner were just too advanced and far too Entrepreneurial for this 35 year old MLM.  Her own personal development journey had opened up her heart to her true passion, one that could not be fulfilled if she were to remain confined to the boundaries of Corporate beurocracy.  She left, and I lost my coach, mentor and friend.

You know the funny thing about hindsight is that until you really take the time to reflect, you can miss out on so many lessons that life has thrown your way.  And that’s exactly what happened to me.

When I came online I missed the opportuntity to work directly with Jonathan Budd by a mere few weeks.  I did however take the next best option which was to join him in his “then” primary opportunity so that I could access his GROUP training and home study programs.

I thought this was a great deal … until about a year ago when I was re-introduced to the concept of having a personal One : One Coach (having been without one for about 2 years!)

Now I will share with you my costly mistakes in a hope to help you avoid some of them.

My inital investment of $3000 in the high ticket direct selling travel company gave me the opportunity to earn $1000 commissions after my first sale was passed up  (this has now changed to being 50%), so that investment seemed like a no brainer – make 4 sales to get a 100% return on investment!

I was joining directly under Jonathan therefore I was entitled to all of his home study courses (at no additional cost) and was included in his once a month group training calls which meant I hardly had any direct contact with him but I definitely had a lot of study to keep me occupied.

I was also paying $300 per month to use the exact same system that he was using (remember this is all before the days of the 7 figure networker).  In total I paid $300 per month for 8 or 9 months = $ 2700 (and it did NOTHING for me!)

On top of this I wasted over $1800 on recycled leads and co-op advertising.  Wonder why I now love SEO & Social Media so much? – LOL!

I paid out another $1500 on website graphics and softwares and got into another lower priced program so I had something to plug people into if they could not afford the $3K.   All in all during my first6 months online I was continuously self teaching, spending money, and never once thought to invest in a business coach – I’d become an independant tight arse!

One of the smartest things I did do though was buddy up with someone who had received personal coaching from JB, and so begun the wonderful friendship and business relationship between myself and Angelito Felix. (Keep an eye out for my upcoming post where I will go into detail of how Angelito & I created products and services to attract prospects)

Back to the lesson though …

If I had my time over again, I would have taken at least half of that wasted money and invested it in a business marketing coach.  No question!

I’ve witnessed more times than I can tell you, dozens of people who have fast tracked their way up to and past my 3 years of blood sweat and tears in this online game.  A few of them have taken mere months.  A majority are happily pulling in a full time income in less than 12 months – and all because of their wise decision to engage a personal coach!

So my suggestion (actually, highest recommendation) is to seek out and find someone who is achieving the results that you desire and find out if they have a one on one coaching program.  BEWARE though, I do not know any of the big names out there who can afford one on one time and if they can, their net worth is usually so incredibly high that you will need to be prepared to pay up to $1000 per hour.
